Programs & Faculty
We emphasize science and math subjects which are taught by experienced teachers from Japan. English skills are taught by an experienced teacher from USA with TESOL qualifications. Swahili, history, geography and civics are taught by Tanzanian teachers.
Short-term seasonal teachers will arrive from Japan and U.S.A. periodically to teach various subjects such as math, home economics, martial arts, and origami. These teachers and subjects expand the horizons of the learners’ view of activities and cultures different from their own.
Challenges still exist for women in Tanzania to advance in key professional areas of the labor market. Providing training in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) will give advantages to the graduates of Sakura Girls Secondary School to compete with their male counterparts and reduce the likelihood of being overlooked for beneficial positions in the scientific and technological fields. Our program will push Sakura Girls to compete for jobs in these areas which Tanzania needs for economic growth by having a robust and diverse pool of skilled professions in these vital areas. This includes many industries which Tanzania needs to continue developing as a country.
In addition, at Sakura we will teach students the importance of attention to detail and meticulous refinement of one’s performance and output. Students will learn how to identify areas for improvement through consistent self-evaluation and collaborative evaluation of tasks and academic progress.
